Guest Optimist: Ayser Salman inspires through “THIS Podcast”

I was honored to recently be interviewed by Ayser Salman, as one of the first guests on her inspiring podcast project. Not only do I appreciate her friendship, I admire her story, passion and creative ideas she possesses. I am honored, today, to welcome her as our Guest Optimist!

Ayser Salman is a writer who makes a living as a producer/editor specializing in feature film marketing and promotion.  Clients during her 10-plus years include Miramax, The Weinstein Company and mOcean.  Recently she’s also added hosting to her resume with the launch of her new podcast on heyayser.com. Prior to coming to Hollywood, Ayser was a news producer in Kentucky where she learned to end each sobering newscast with an uplifting clip of a cuddly rodent water skiing. As a writer, she’s had a TV sitcom pilot optioned by Fox and recently was selected for the Humanitas New Voices Writer’s Initiative. She speaks conversational Arabic and enough German to make people ask her to stop butchering their language.

Hi everyone, I’m Ayser Salman.  I had the pleasure of interviewing Kendra for my new Podcast, called “THIS Podcast,” the show that focuses on cool people and the causes and projects they are involved in for the greater good.

When I met Kendra about a year ago and she told me about Celebrity Optimist, I thought it was really fantastic.  It’s the perfect antidote to a culture, which often focuses on the glass not only being half empty — but drained dry.

My idea to start “THIS Podcast” came about because I was constantly meeting great people, like Kendra, who were involved with projects they enjoyed, but which served also to give back and help others.  I loved that and I was pretty sure others would too.

And the response thus far has been incredible.  Though we’re a relatively nascent show, people are really taking an interest.  I credit my fantastic guests and their projects.  I hope as the podcast grows in listeners, we can really put the spotlight on these wonderful people and get the word out.

So, that’s a bit about me.  Thanks for reading and I hope you’ll give a listen.  You can find “THIS Podcast” on http://heyayser.com/.

Guest Optimist: Closets for Causes Founder Talia Bella asks, “What is your fashion footprint?”

Celebrity Optimist welcomes Talia Bella as Guest Optimist! Talia is a Los Angeles based Designer and Founder of Closets for Causes. She loves fashion and has found a way to blend that love with philanthropy! The force behind Closets for Causes, she is the founder of this cause marketing company which auctions off celebrity/character wardrobes and donates proceeds to the charity of the celebrity’s choosing. She is innovative, stylish and has a giving heart. All of this is apparent with her guest entry, where she discusses sustainability in the fashion industry and poses the timely question, “What is your fashion footprint?

Talia Bella, Founder of Closets for Causes

Sustainability is a subject which is talked about often, whether it be due to the energy crisis or in response to the signs of global warming.

Sustainability in fashion, however,  is a subject that’s not too often shared, primarily because the industry is designed to be quite the opposite. How do these mega brands backed by mega corporations make money? They shower you with new trends and new looks, so that each season you’re buying.

This can not only put a damper on your bank account but the planet as well. The industry produces an average of  2 million tons of waste per year. With the majority of discarded fast fashions and trends ending up in landfills.

I live for fashion. Adore it in fact. And while I do try to stay current with new trends, I do so in a way that doesn’t require building a new wardrobe each season. Here are some tips:

- Invest in classic pieces that are well made and designed to last you years and only supplement your existing wardrobe with one or two key pieces each season.

- When you must retire a piece donate it to Goodwill or resell it. One woman’s trash is another woman’s treasure.

- Shop vintage and used. Some amazing finds can be acquired this way and can be a thrifty way to add new pieces to your wardrobe. My company, Closets for Causes, is an excellent example of this.

As John Wooden said, “It’s not what you do, it’s how you do it”. So what’s your fashion footprint?

Guest Optimist: Amy Spencer sees things BRIGHT SIDE UP

Celebrity Optimist is very excited to welcome Guest Blogger and Optimist, Amy Spencer to our site! I first came upon her Life Optimist site through social media, by accident. I was pleasantly surprised, though, to see that there was someone else out there writing about having a positive outlook. There is a sometimes overwhelming amount of negativity out there in the world, and it’s refreshing to hear about things from a more optimistic and healthy perspective. And so, I reached out with an email with the subject line, “From one optimist to another”! Amy responded quickly and we instantly clicked, I believe, because we are on the same page! Speaking of pages, among the many talents Amy possesses, including magazine journalist, radio host and app developer, she is a writer/author who is about to release her second book! I will let her tell you more about it below, but if it’s received a recommendation from O, The Oprah Winfrey Magazine, it’s sure to be a good read! Thank you, Amy, for being our Guest Optimist! - Kendra

Hi!

I’m such a fan of CelebrityOptimist.com because Kendra is doing here what I think we could all be happier doing in life: Focusing on the positive.

I’ve always been an optimist. But I don’t always have a great day. Still, I rarely get through a day thinking it was an awful one. That’s because after I’ve sighed or cried or stomped out my frustration, I find that I feel much better moving forward and shifting my focus from the negative to the positive. Because the more I focus on the positive, the more I see the positive, and the more positive things I attract into my life!

Want to know my secret? Well, I have a lot of them. In fact, I write about 100 of them in my new book BRIGHT SIDE UP: 100 Ways to Be Happier Right Now. But to get you started thinking more positively, here’s my number one trick:

Say the words “The GOOD news is…” and then finish the sentence, however you can.

  • If you accidentally set your alarm for p.m. instead of a.m. and overslept, the GOOD news is…you finally got a healthy night’s rest so you’ll be more productive today!
  • If you’re stuck in traffic, the GOOD news is…it’s is a perfect time to call and catch up with Mom!
  • If you spilled ink on your new sweater, the GOOD news is…no one will have a sweater exactly like yours!
  • If you’re single and fearing you’ll never find love, the GOOD news is…you can fall in love with your life first, so when the right person comes along, they’ll feel luckier than ever to be a part of it!

This little “good news” secret works no matter what you’re facing. Whether it’s something tiny or huge, serious or hilarious, if you look for the good stuff, you WILL find it. Be creative: The longer your list and the more outlandish you get, the better!

I hope this helps you see your next tough situation BRIGHT SIDE UP. And here’s to shifting our perspective to the positive as often as we can — in celebrity’s lives and in our own.
